Our Mission
1. The Advocates is an organization comprised of individuals, families,
Organizations and groups, etc., dedicated to the educational, social and
residential advancement of people with developmental disabilities of all
ages in Montgomery County.
2. The Advocates will carry out the mission by organizing under a
parliamentary system, families, individuals and existing advocacy groups
operating within Montgomery County.
3. All member organizations will retain their own individual autonomy.
4. The larger body of the Advocates will provide the structural
framework through which issues pertaining to individuals and group
members can be presented, addressed and advanced by The Advocates.
5. The Advocates will research the issues and formulate a position paper
and stated goal by devising plans and creating projects.

The Advocates for People with Developmental Disabilities
provides resource and information to over 1100 families
in Montgomery County through direct mail, email,
personal distributions, workshops, educational training
and a dedicated website.
The Advocates membership services 493 families
throughout a 5 county area of Montgomery, Greene, and
Warren Counties.
Federal and state funding is an essential source to individual Counties major source of funding dollars through legislation, match funds and County Human Services.

Collaborative systems serving children with disabilities from birth to 22 years of age. Emphasis on family planning and programs that transition into adulthood.

Advancing community and educational awareness of supporting issues that benefit people with developmental disabilities. Advocating for informed choices and system changes.

Providers of living environments, training for placement and independent living needs, and social advancement. Ongoing need to advocate for more housing and improved changes for transportation and to legislate for resource funding

Advocating to provide vocational training and habilitation services through workshops, community job supports, enclaves and independent job resources and placement. Advocating for reasonable, accessible transportation services

Everyday, decisions are made that could affect the life of someone with a
developmental disability. The ADVOCATES understand what's happening
at the federal, state and county level and are working to keep you informed,
through workshops and informational meetings. The ADVOCATES
work to inform and educate the public about the needs of the system that
is in place to help people with developmental disabilities is complicated to
say the least and ever-changing! If you don't understand the system in
place, you need The ADVOCATES.
